Trip Summary

Cape Town’s False Bay is the starting point for this scenic coastal drive all the way around to Walker Bay. En route we’ll stop to explore the Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens, and Betty’s Bay with its colony of African Penguins. In the afternoon we’ll hike or mountain bike through the Elgin Valley.

The scenic R44 follows the coast all the way from Cape Town’s False Bay, our starting point. Look out for whales and dolphins as we head towards Walker Bay – known for some of the best land-based whale-watching in South Africa. On the way we’ll stop at Betty’s Bay to visit its resident colony of African penguins, plus the fascinating Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens, home to more plant species than any other garden in the world. Your guide will show you how to make use of traditional plants, perhaps preparing fresh iced tea, as you explore the nature trails that lead up into Disa and Leopard’s Kloof.

Next, head inland into the Elgin Valley with its wealth of hiking and mountain bike trails. Our return to Cape Town brings us over Sir Lowry’s Pass, with incredible views across the city and back along the R44 coastal road. This Private Cape Adventure is a superb way to experience some of the most beautiful and diverse regions in this southern part of Africa.
