Trip Summary

The aim of the day is to explore the highlights of the Cape Peninsula in a unique way off the beaten path, looking for any excuse to embrace the ocean and explore one of the most unique marine habitats in the world. Explore the great outdoors in this unique and spectacular habitat to explore one of the most unique marine habitats in the world.

Today we will make our way along the stunning Cape Peninsula to the False Bay coastline.

We will start the day by heading towards the Surfers Mecca beach of Muizenberg for some photos, before continuing through the bohemian feel Kalk Bay for a coffee in one of our favourite bakeries/coffee shops. At Kalk Bay we will walk through this very quaint old holiday town filled with antique shops, galleries, craftsman and vendors shouting as we go. Kalk Bay is a working fishing community filled with brightly coloured boats, some noisy seals and even louder ladies hard at work processing the day’s catch!

From here, we will drive along the coast towards Simon’s Town, where we will search for our own rogue penguins – a splinter colony away from the crowded boardwalks over the main breeding site, on a beach known mostly to locals. Our penguin conservationist will take you on an educational and enlightening penguin walk on the walkways bordering the penguin sanctuary.

Continuing our journey to Windmill Beach for an exciting snorkel safari. Your guide will run through your snorkeling activity, what to expect, and safety instructions. Get suited up and head into the water for a unique ocean experience and spend the morning snorkeling in the underwater kelp forests. We will be snorkeling out with a buoy and staying together as a group. Before entering the kelp forest we will have done the water confidence activities so this is a fun way to put into practice what you just learned about yourself. (In this session we will NOT be free diving, so no weight belt is given unless they can provide a certificate of a completed free diving course).

We will then continue on to the Cape of Good Hope. In the peninsula reserve, we will enjoy a gentle hike exploring secluded beaches, shipwrecks, and this region’s unique wildlife while on the hunt for the Cape 5 (Ostrich, Baboons, Mountain Zebra, Bontebok, and Tortoise).

Wind the afternoon down with a visit to the local Noordhoek Farm Village where you can all enjoy a delicious artisanal ice cream at Kristen's Kick Ass Ice Cream, before heading back towards the city centre along the most scenic drive of all: Chapman's Peak. Stop at a magical surprise location for an early evening drink as a local.
