A day of contrasts beginning at sea level and ending 1085 meters above on Table Mountain. Your guide will join you over to Robben Island to help make the incredible story come alive. Whilst on the island we will join the island tour ending with a tour of the cells with an ex-political prisoner. We combined this with a visit to the heart of our colourful and diverse city to immerse yourself in the various cultures and to see the life in the day of a local Capetonian.
Your guide will help make the incredible story come alive whilst traveling onboard the ferry to Robben Island. En route, you will view Cape Town from an entirely new perspective with your guide pointing out landmarks that will otherwise go unnoticed.
When on Robben Island you will be taken on a tour of the Island, the majority of which are led by ex-prisoners themselves. Hear the incredible story of one prisoner who became South Africa's first democratically elected President. You will really get the best possible insight into Nelson Mandela's life and his experiences on Robben Island while he spent 18 years incarcerated on this island. His 27 years of incarceration were split between Robben Island, Pollsmoor Prison, and Victor Verster Prison.
After visiting the Island which takes approximately 3.5 hours we will pop in for a delicious local lunch before continuing on with our adventure.
After lunch, your ascending cable car reveals increasingly breathtaking views over the city and an endless sea until you stand atop iconic Table Mountain. Leave the noise behind and hike away from the crowds, keeping watch for wildlife and rare plants - if you can tear your eyes from the vistas. Enjoy the fauna and flora and the breathtaking views on your way to the top and once you reach the peak, take in the 360-degree views while tracking Dassies (Mountain Rock Rabbits) that can often be spotted on the tabletop. On top of Table Mountain, we will take a short hike away from the crowds whilst our guide brings alive the history of Cape Town combining the elevated view over the city with turn-of-the-century photographs to highlight the changes in the city.
From here we make our way to the colourful Bo-Kaap area in the historic city center. Here we will spend time exploring the cobbled streets and spice markets to experience a lively suburb filled with brightly coloured houses from as early as the seventeenth century, Muslim saint shrines, and many beautiful Mosques.
Reward your tastebuds with a refreshing drink at a local hangout in the city!
