Trip Summary

This half-day tour of the Lesedi Cultural Village is where you discover the fascinating cultures and traditions of the people of Africa by visiting five homesteads inhabited by tribes who live according to tribal folklore and traditions of their ancestors. You are invited to enjoy the essence of Ubuntu - the belief in a universal bond of sharing that connects all humanity – through song, dance, and the warmth of South Africa’s hospitality. Your half-day tour ends with a traditional performance and a buffet dinner-feast.

You will be met at your hotel by your tour representative and taken to the Lesedi Cultural Village, set amidst the rocky hills of the Magaliesberg, for your chance to encounter the people of South Africa – people of Zulu, Xhosa, Pedi, Ndebele and Basotho origin. After a video introduction to their rich history, members of each tribe will escort you through traditional homesteads and share their particular cultural hallmarks, for example, the architecture, traditional rituals, clothing and stories of daily life.

One highlight of your trip will be the impressive display of African dancing in the dance boma – the word boma is used in South Africa to describe an outdoor enclosure, normally around a large fire. Dancing is followed by an eclectic African dinner-feast at Nyama Choma Restaurant with many exciting choices: potjiekos – a traditional meat stew cooked in a black cast-iron pot with samp (maize porridge) and beans, chops, boerewors (beef sausage), steak or chicken from the braai (pronounced “bry”, rhyming with the word “cry”) is the Afrikaans word for barbecue/roast and is truly a social custom in Southern Africa. Test your taste buds on crocodile, kudu or warthog.

Browse the market for locally handmade arts and crafts representing the different tribes - something to remind you of the warmth of true rural African culture.

  • Be sure to wear your dancing shoes.
  • Please advise if you have any dietary requests/allergies at the time of booking the tour
