Start early like a local with a visit to the Sea Point Promenade. From here, launch double kayaks and paddle along the Atlantic Seaboard, keeping watch for dolphins, seals, penguins, sunfish, and even the occasional whale. The coastline is alive with marine life and framed by spectacular views of Lion’s Head and the Twelve Apostles.
Alternative Option: If you prefer to stay dry, opt for a gentle cycle along the promenade on cruiser bikes. This relaxed route includes stops at public art installations, including works on rhino conservation and tributes to Nelson Mandela’s 18 years on Robben Island. Bicycles are available for all ages and sizes, making it a great option for families.
Next, board the rotating Table Mountain cable car for a scenic ride to the summit. As you ascend, panoramic views of Cape Town and the ocean unfold. At the top, take a short guided hike away from the crowds, exploring rare fynbos, spotting dassies (rock hyraxes), and soaking in the 360-degree views from the city’s most iconic natural landmark.
Alternative Option: For those seeking more of a challenge, you can choose to hike to the summit. This guided route typically takes 2 to 2.5 hours and offers a more strenuous, rewarding ascent.
Descend to the city and head to Bree Street, one of Cape Town’s most vibrant culinary corridors. Here, enjoy a well-deserved lunch at a local café or restaurant known for bold flavours, fresh ingredients, and relaxed atmosphere.
After lunch, dive into Cape Town’s layered history with a walking tour through the city centre, led by your guide. From historic buildings to hidden corners, learn how the stories of the past have shaped this cosmopolitan city.
Continue into the Bo Kaap, a colourful and culturally rich neighbourhood. Wander cobblestone streets lined with vivid homes, centuries-old mosques, and shrines. Along the way, visit boutique artisan shops and meet the local makers driving Cape Town’s growing “local is lekker” movement of handcrafted, sustainable goods.
As the day winds down, stop at a local bar or café for a refreshing drink. Whether it’s a rooftop gin bar, a tucked-away wine lounge, or a street-side espresso stop, your guide will choose the perfect spot to toast a day of adventure and discovery in the Mother City.
