Trip Summary

Our route will take us from the City Bowl to Constantia, directly over Table Mountain which lies in our path. To maximise time exploring the table top we will take the cable car up before hiking over Table Mountain right into the heart of the Constantia Winelands for an afternoon of wine tasting.

We will begin the day hiking the table top, exploring the hidden dams and valleys that would usually go undiscovered by most visitors. Beginning by taking the Cable Car to the top will maximise our time hiking to Constantia and into the heart of the wine farms.

The farms vary greatly and no farm is more than 5 or 10 minutes from the next with many linked by cycle and hiking tracks. This maximises time out exploring, so if a lot of your holiday has been in a 4x4 safari vehicle or sightseeing around Cape Town this allows for a day mostly spent on the farms and not in a vehicle.

We will hike down Constantia Neck into Beau Constantia, set 250 meters above sea level, this wine farm offers stunning views across the valley. Here we will learn about how the different tastes come from the different soils and exposure. Beau Constantia is also a new farm planted in 2003 (a wide variety of grapes were planted (Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Shiraz and Petit Verdot). By 2010 the farm started winning awards and it has not stopped since.

For a sense of history we will then pay a visit to Groot Constantia. The more than 300-year-old wine farm has plenty of history and award-winning wines to explore. We will walk via the vineyard into the old main building along its oak line boulevard to the main cellar for a private cellar tour and wine tasting.

Having experienced the variety of both old and new, the guide will then select a mystery wine farm to end the day based on the clients previous interests in tastings.
