Trip Summary

Walker Bay is the starting point for this scenic coastal drive that runs all the way around to Cape Town’s False Bay.

We will start our day by heading to De Kelders where we will experience a Fat Biking Adventure.

These bikes are a new revelation to the Mountain Biking world, allowing people to ride on terrain that previously seemed impossible, even with just the basic cycling skill. Our cycle will lead us down a sandy horse trail through the Fynbos before reaching the Dunes where your guide will fully brief each rider so that all members of the group feel confident in experiencing the unique downhill run. Having conquered the Dunes we will continue along the beach, keeping an eye out for the Marine Wildlife that inhabits the Bay.

Returning to our Adventure Utility Vehicle (AUV) our journey will head inland to Stanford. For lunch, we will stop at one of the lovely local restaurants at Stanford. The Tasting Room restaurant has a reputation for relaxation with an emphasis on fresh and inventive food of an exceptionally high standard. The chalkboard menu changes daily according to what is locally fresh and available, including items from our own vegetable garden.

This afternoon we venture to small villages, perched on the cliffs above the bay. From an elevated vantage point, you have a birds-eye view of the whales, and may possibly even see some calves. After thousands of years, the crash of waves has carved a series of underground caves into the cliffs and these contain a glittering array of stalactites and stalagmites as well as ocean-filled rock pools, perfect for swimming. Out of whale season, we adapt our touring and explore the fascinating Hemel-en-Aarde valley in more depth, seeking out the fine wines for which the region is well-regarded.

Hike through the lush Harold Porter Botanical Gardens, an estate which lies sandwiched between ocean and mountain and includes marsh, heath, forest, gorge, and dunes as well as stretches of fynbos. Learn how to use some plants for medicinal purposes, especially when we reach the Khoi-San Gardens.

Exploring the Stony Point Nature Reserve in Betty’s Bay, home to a breeding colony of Penguins, taking time to enjoy their character-filled antics.

We return to Cape Town, via the scenic coastal route which will allow you to enjoy the perfect vistas of this spectacular coastline.
