Day 1: Nairobi

Upon arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) you will be met at the Health Check area by a representative from Villa Rosa Kempenski Hotel, who will accompany you through customs.  After collecting your luggage, your driver will escort you to your private vehicle and transfer you to the hotel.  

Upon arrival at Villa Rosa Kempenski, your driver will confirm your departure time to Wilson Airport the following day. 

 

Expert tips

To enter Kenya, you must have a passport that is valid for a minimum of six months after your return date and a visitors visa, which you can order online - https://evisa.go.ke/. More information will be provided in your trip guide. 

All of your accommodations will offer reliable Wi-Fi; however, if you would like to have uninterrupted mobile service throughout your trip, you can purchase a local SIM card from one of the stands you'll see when you exit arrivals. Your driver can direct you to the best service provider. The most common are Airtel and Safaricom, and you should be able to purchase either a physical or e-SIM card.

Day 2: Lewa Conservancy

Fri. 24 May 2024

Today, you will head to Lewa Wilderness, where you will spend the next four nights. The group will be escorted to Wilson Airport, where you will embark on your private charter to the Lewa Wilderness bush airstrip. 

Upon arrival, your driver will greet you and transfer you to the lodge. 

At the lodge, you will be met by the warm and friendly staff, who will brief you on your stay and show you to your cottage, which you will call home for the next four days. 

Once settled in your cottage, you'll enjoy a leisurely lunch, during which you will get to know your Pickleball pro and discuss your itinerary, combining professional instruction and open play with traditional game drives and other leisure activities. 

Following your afternoon tea, you will set off with your guide for a game drive, after which you'll enjoy a sundowner cocktail before returning to the lodge. 

Before dinner, you will enjoy a welcome reception and discuss the activities available over the next four days.

Day 3: Lewa Conservancy

Start your day with an early morning game drive and bush breakfast. There is an excellent chance of seeing all of the "Big Five," and Lewa is one of the only conservancies where guests are almost guaranteed to see the endangered black and white rhino.

After returning to the lodge, the group will gather for mid-morning Pickleball instruction and open play. 

Early afternoon, you will have a casual lunch, where guests can pick what they love from a full spread of delicious options fresh from Lewa's small farm and garden. 

Following lunch, you can engage in local activities, including horse riding and camel walks, cool off in the saltwater infinity pool, or visit a local community craft center or school. Or, if you prefer, hit the courts again for another round of Pickleball. 

After afternoon tea, you will set off with your guide for a game drive, after which you'll enjoy a sundowner cocktail before returning to the lodge. 

Dinner at Lewa Wilderness is presented more formally, serving guests three set courses amongst a roaring fire and star-filled sky for a meal that will delight all the senses.

Day 4: Lewa Conservancy

Begin your day with a sunrise breakfast before heading out for an early morning game drive. Lewa is surrounded by rich game-viewing opportunities without the crowds. Only three vehicles are allowed at a wildlife sighting, ensuring an exclusive game-viewing experience.

After returning to the lodge, the group will gather for mid-morning Pickleball instruction and open play. 

Enjoy a leisurely lunch, after which you can enjoy your afternoon sunning by the pool, exploring Lewa on a guided walk, or schedule additional Pickleball instruction with the Pro.

Following your afternoon tea, you will set off with your guide for a game drive, after which you'll again enjoy a sundowner cocktail before returning to the lodge. 

This evening you'll enjoy dinner under the stars with a traditional African bush dinner.

Day 5: Lewa Conservancy

Your day will begin with a sunrise breakfast before heading out for an early morning game drive. On your last full day at Lewa, your guide will take you searching for your favorite wildlife.

After returning to the lodge, the group will gather for mid-morning Pickleball instruction and open play. 

Today's lunch will be served at Lewa Wilderness' organic farm under the shade of trees after a tour of the impressive vegetable and fruit gardens. 

Following your afternoon tea, you will set off with your guide for a final game drive, after which you'll enjoy a sundowner cocktail before returning to the lodge. 

Dinner this evening will be held on the deck, which enjoys fabulous hillside views, providing game-viewing opportunities while tucking into a delicious dinner.

Day 6: Laikipia

Tue. 28 May 2024

Start your day with a sunrise breakfast before heading out for an early morning game drive, where you will say farewell to the majestic wildlife found in the Lewa Conservancy. Alternatively, you can choose to participate in an early-morning Pickleball clinic.

After lunch, you will depart Lewa Lodge's private airstrip on your charter flight to the Ol Jogi. Here you will be greeted by Jamie Gaymer, the head warden of the Conservancy, and your host during your stay at Ol Jogi. 
You will be escorted to the manor house for a welcome glass of Champagne and explore all this spectacular estate offers. 

Later in the day, you'll depart the manor for a late afternoon game drive, where you'll begin to explore Ol Jogi's 58,000-acre private Conservancy. With over 100 rhinos, one of the world's largest populations of Grevy Zebras, and the rare Reticulated Giraffe, Ol Jogi is a haven for endangered wildlife. Before returning home, you'll enjoy a welcome sundowner atop a cliff overlooking the Ol Jogi estate.

This evening, dinner will be served on the Veranda overlooking a large watering hole where various wildlife will join you.

Wake up to giraffe and zebra gathering for a morning drink at the water hole as you enjoy a delicious breakfast before heading to the courts for Pickleball instruction with the Pro.

Lunch will be served on the Veranda, after which you can relax at the house and take advantage of all its amenities, including a lagoon pool, beautiful spa complete with a Hammam, and fitness room, or take a guided walk, go horse riding, or enjoy Pickleball open play. 

For those who would like to go on an afternoon game drive, you will enjoy sundowners in the bush. Alternatively, you can gather for more court time and enjoy court-side sundowners. 

This evening, dinner will be served on the main house lawn adjacent to the watering hole.  

And for those who like to stargaze, you might want to consider a Traveling Telescope Star Safari!

Day 8: Laikipia

Thu. 30 May 2024

This morning, we will focus on Conservation as we depart early this morning for the Pyramid side of the conservancy to visit Ol Jogi's Wildlife Rescue Center. Here you'll see the elephants and interact with the rhinos in the Boma. The Rescue Center was created to care for wildlife orphaned or injured due to human activity. Its primary goal is to one day responsibly release wildlife back into their natural environment. 

Upon departing from Pyramid, you will stop en route back to the manor for a delightful bush lunch. 

Enjoy your free time this afternoon for Pickleball open play or private instruction with the Pro. 

This evening, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will be served in the private wine cellar, followed by a visit to the underground hide, where you can get up close and personal with various wildlife. Dinner will be served in the formal dining room.

Expert tips

Make sure you inquire about bottle feeding the baby rhinos and participating in a cooling mud bath. For the baby rhino, not you!

Day 9: Laikipia

Following breakfast, you'll participate in a Pickleball tournament, after which you will visit the Ol Jogi primary school with 230 children on site. With 12 teachers, three cooks, and three security staff, the school runs from kindergarten level to the end of the primary school cycle, providing over ten years of free quality education to the children of their staff of 300+. 

Lunch will be served al fresco, either poolside or on the Veranda. Following lunch, you can again enjoy the house amenities or gather for another Pickleball tournament. 

For your final dinner at Ol Jogi, you'll embark on an evening game drive ending at River Camp, where you'll enjoy traditional Massai dancers and a sumptuous bush dinner.
