Day 1: Arusha

After your arrival in Kilimanjaro airport, you will be met and driven to Arusha.  Situated in the outskirts of this busy little town, Olerai, the Strand family house, is set under a canopy of yellow-barked acacias and other indigenous trees. This bush home is the perfect start to your Tanzanian journey

Day 2: Tarangire National Park

Depart for Tarangire National Park using seldom trodden tracks and stopping to visit a  traditional Masai village on the way.  Continue towards the park,  enjoying a game drive and a picnic lunch en-route. Osunyai Wilderness Camp, our exclusive Camp set on the edge of the wilderness zone, is situated close to the Silale wetland and prime elephant & buffalo habitat, and in the heart of big game country. 

 

Expert tips

The camp is set beneath mature acacia trees facing the rising sun. A very large tent forms the nucleus of the camp. In the dining area, guests can enjoy delicious meals tailored to individual requirements and dietary preferences, sample wines from Southern Africa and beers from the region, as well as the normal selection of soft drinks, juices & spirits. The lounge is there for relaxing and enjoying – afternoon tea is normally served there. The accommodations comprise of luxury safari tents. The tents are large and airy with full width windows and en-suite bathrooms, king sized double or two extra long single beds, hanging wardrobe, luggage racks and interior solar light tables. Each has a private veranda. Osunyai has all the creature comforts of a seasonal Camp, whilst retaining the necessary balance & feel of our mobile heritage. 

Day 3: Tarangire National Park

Close liaison with your driver-guide is greatly encouraged to ensure the choice of daily activities match your mood and pace. A wide range of wildlife and nature activities are offered within the area: in addition to the traditional Game drives, we are happy to be able to offer Game walks accompanied by our own armed walking guide and a night game drive.

Expert tips

The baobab-strewn Tarangire is a haven for wildlife and has an extremely rich game viewing potential: herds up to 300 elephants scratch the dry river bed for underground streams, while migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland crowd the shrinking lagoons. It has the greatest concentration of wildlife outside the Serengeti ecosystem, and the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as the Oryx and the gerenuk are regularly observed. Osunyai and nearby Silale are fantastic habitats to view predators and prey in an unsurpassed setting.

Day 4: Tarangire National Park

Day 5: Karatu

Morning game drive out of the Park. Depart for the Rit Valley Escarpment - we will stop at the colourful and busy village of Mto-Wa-Mbu for a traditional Tanzania lunch in a small friendly restaurant. There will be a possibility to walk around the market and generally get a feel for this bustling African village.

Continue to Plantation Lodge – set in a working farm and on a high bluff, the lodge is comfortable, elegant and personable – one of the best addresses in Northern Tanzania. 

Expert tips

The lodge offers accommodation in separate ‘houses’ with a central restaurant and bar area. There is a stunning tropical gardens and a nice pool overlooking the surrounding farmland. Built to a very high standard under the supervision of owner Renate, Plantation Lodge is a good place from which to explore the area.

Day 6: Karatu

Depart for the Ngorongoro crater for a full day game drive. Picnic lunch.

Expert tips

Standing at 2236m above sea level, Ngorongoro is the largest unbroken caldera in the world and is surrounded by very steep walls rising 610m from the floor. Covering an area of 259 sq.kms, it is considered to be one of the Wonders of the Natural World and is a veritable haven for wildlife.

Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater

Depart for Serengeti – a stop at Olduvai Gorge can be arranged. Game drive en route to your Camp.

Expert tips

Dulana sits on the edge of ‘Hidden Valley’ a little known depression on the southern plains of the Serengeti, on the edge of the off road driving area, allowing immediate access onto the short grass plains where Cheetah are abundant and Lion prides establish territory close to camp and the surrounding woodland.The camp takes advantage of the uninterrupted views across the shallow valley, where different species of game can be spotted from the comfort of the accommodation tents. The main lounge and dining tents also enjoy splendid views and are a haven of comfort for the hours of daytime rest. The accommodation tents are large & airy, and all en-suite.

Day 8: Ngorongoro Crater

Serengeti National Park is the home of The Great Migration-the largest land based migration on Earth. At any time of year, hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and zebra congregate together en masse creating an unsurpassed wildlife spectacle. The short rainy season from December thru May bears witness to the huge herds congregating on the short grass plains. Two full days will be spent game viewing in this splendid wildlife environment.

Day 9: Ngorongoro Crater

Day 10: End of Itinerary

Drive to the nearest airstrip in order to board your flight to Arusha for lunch – there will be a shopping opportunity and a day use room will be at your disposal. Later on you will be transferred to the airport for your flight home.
