The Colossi of Memnon are the first monuments that you will see when visiting the West Bank. They stand in a plain between the Nile and the rugged desert hills, not far from the Valley of the Kings. Over three thousand years old, they once served as guardians of the Temple of Amenophis III. The temple has long disappeared, leaving only these seated giants, twenty meters high, both of which represent the pharaoh himself.

The desolate Valley of the Kings was thought to be near the realm of the Gods and deemed an ideal burial ground. Over 60 graves have been discovered there of which very few are open to the public.

Continue to visit the temple of the formidable Queen Hatshepsut. It stands at the foot of a sheer 100-meter high cliff on a succession of terraces supported by pillars. The temple has been carefully restored and the interior is extremely attractive.

After lunch, opportunity to tour both Karnak and Luxor temples. Karnak temple, situated on the northern outskirts of Luxor was the main place of worship of the Theban triad with the god Amun at its head. The temple of Amun was ideologically and economically the most important in the whole of Egypt. Luxor temple, situated in the centre of the town, was closely connected with the Great temple of Amun at Karnak.

In the afternoon, an opportunity to go on an (optional excursion) to the Sound and Light performance at the Temple of Karnak. It is a unique and impressive experience. While beams of coloured light play upon the thousand-year-old stone, they also swamp the walls and columns with a sheer glow and as the voices tell their story, the audience walk from the Avenue of Sphinx through the great Hypostyle Hall and through 2000 years of history ending at the Sacred Lake.

The narration continues and the program climaxes with a brilliant display of lights on the monuments reflected in the pool.
