Day 3: Johannesburg

After breakfast, depart on a full day excursion to the Cardle of Humankind.

We’re going right back to our beginnings, to the exceptional World Heritage Site of The Cradle of Humankind. The superb Maropeng Visitor Centre is truly an exciting, world class exhibition, focusing on the development of humans and our ancestors over the past few million years.

From past to present, we’ll be exploring five cultures at the Lesedi Cultural Village, heart and home to families of a range of African tribes, all living harmoniously in traditional homesteads.

You’ll be right there experiencing the warmth and hospitality of people from the Zulu, Xhosa, Ndebele, Sotho and Pedi cultures, and you’ll find it fascinating!

Our multilingual, multi-visual orientation depicts the history of South Africa, and will deepen your understanding of the complexity of our multicultural community.

We will enjoy a traditional African meal, a fine way to round off a day of new experiences and fresh insights.

Day 5: Madikwe Game Reserve

A day on safari!

Out in the wild there are no guarantees, but Jaci’s expert field guides have years of experience in tracking and identifying animals of the African bush.

Your field guide will do his utmost to ensure that you enjoy an incredible bush safari adventure.

Early morning and evening are the best times to catch a glimpse of Africa’s top ten: lion, buffalo, leopard, elephant and rhino (both black and white), along with the equally impressive hippo, giraffe and the endangered wild dog, hyena (spotted and brown) and cheetah.

Be sure to keep an eye out for large antelope species such as eland, gemsbok, sable and nyala.

Smaller buck species such as springbok, oribi, duiker and klipspringer also abound.

Over the years our highly qualified field guides have accumulated a wonderful repertoire of anecdotes and interesting facts on local wildlife, geology, history and geography.

As you traverse the African bush, these tales of the wild will make your African safari game drive a fun and informative experience.

Day 7: Ghana

After breakfast you will be met by your local English speaking driver-guide for your full day tour of the Cape Peninsula. Depart the hotel and flank the colder Atlantic Ocean en route to Hout Bay. Once a fishing community and now one of the most popular residential areas, the harbor still has a charm of days gone by. A chance to join the M.V "Circe" for a half hour cruise to "Seal Island" (at an additional cost) or for the not so adventurous, the fish market "Mariners Wharf" is a must. The tour now continues over the famous Chapman’s Peak drive – if open, with a 200 meter drop on one side and a 200 meter rise on the other, as we make our way south, following the Atlantic Ocean until we reach Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope. Said to be the romantic meeting place of the two mighty oceans, the Atlantic and the Indian, Sir Francis Drake the Explorer once called it "the fairest Cape that we saw in the whole circumference of the Globe". And rightly so, it must be the highlight of any visit to the Mother City, if not South Africa. Our optional lunch stop today is at the Fish Hoek Galley. We pass the naval base of Simonstown as we continue along the Indian Ocean, en route to see the Jackass penguin colony which has become well established at Boulders Beach near Simonstown. Our last stop of the day is at the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens (optional - additional cost), home of some 3 500 species of Southern African fauna and flora. We return to the hotel in the late afternoon, having seen some of the best the Cape has to offer.

After breakfast enjoy a full day at leisure to explore the beautiful city of Cape Town. Maybe take a trip in the cable car up Table Mountain or a boat ride for a poignant visit to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for many years. In the summer months, maybe head for the white sand beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay. Whatever else, you will not be at a loss for fun filled things for a family to enjoy!
