Considered to be one of the most remarkable art treasures in the east, the Seokguram Grotto is located on Mt. Tohamsan, in Gyeongju and plays a vital role in Korean cultural history. The temple is located within close proximity to Bulguksa, and the grotto overlooks the Sea of Japan. The temple was designated as the 24th national treasure of Korea in 1962 and UNESCO added it to the world heritage list in 1995.
