The Bananal Farm is original from the 16th Century and it was carefully restored. Located around 10min by car from Paraty’s historical center, nowadays the farm works with projects about education, sustainability, and agro-ecology. Their own restaurant presents a farm to table system, which means that everything produced by the farm is offered directly to the table.
With more than 460 bird species already identified by their own ornithologist, the farm presents different birdwatching activities:

- Trail with ornithologist (1h30-2h): In this contemplation tour it’s possible to observe the birds freely in their natural habitat. During the walk through the farm, the ornithologist uses its techniques and knowledge to call the birds and bring them closer. The trail has easy access (1km). Bring a binocular.
- Trail for birdwatchers w/ experience (4h): This tour is indicated for those who have experience with birdwatching. Guests can explore the farm’s open spaces and inside the forest. Since the guests already have experience, the farm guide will only follow for safety and to clear possible doubts.
- Research tour with ornithologist and picnic (3h-4h): This research tour was made for guests that would like to follow the ornithologist’s work. It consists in identifying, studying and tracking the bird species for monitoring purposes and for the research about the Atlantic Forest wildlife. The ornithologist will also explain the bird’s origin and its role in the natural environment. At the end of this activity, a plastic-free gourmet picnic is served near a waterfall.
