Ampenan Bungalows are intimate units that celebrate the Peranakan culture (the acculturation between the Chinese settlers and the local natives) of Lombok in the late 19th century. The Chinese settlers used to be centered in the region of Pabean, Karang Ujung, and the street of Ancar in Ampenan, the old capital of Lombok, and the area was colorful with a very unique, indigenous style that played an important role in the history of Lombok. Sadly, during the war between the kingdom of Lombok and the Dutch colonial government, this whole settlement had been bombed and therefore disappeared completely, leaving only very little trace for the next generations to experience.

The uniqueness and beauty of GEDONG GANDRUNG illustrate the splendor of Lombok palaces a thousand years ago. Gedong Gandrung depicts the love story of Rama and Sinta. Princess Sinta was separated for thirteen long years from her beloved prince, Rama, when she was kidnapped by the giant Rahwana. A giant chandelier at the Gedong Gandrung is shaped after the magical, powerful bird who had helped re-united the love of Rama and Sinta. Gedong in old Indonesian language means “hall” whereas Gandrung means “strong, passionate romantic love; an uncontainable infatuation.” The architecture and interior of Gedong Gandrung, the wedding hall that has been created by Hotel Tugu Lombok, was inspired by the masterpieces of famous architect and renowned painter of Bali and Lombok: I Gusti Gedong (1850-1894) and I Gusti Nyoman Lempad (1862-1978).
