Located less than 100 kilometres off the coast of Phuket, the Similan archipelago consists of 11 islands that together make up a national marine park. The park was established in 1982 and its waters are home to a colourful kaleidoscope of underwater life - including exquisite coral formations, moray eels, triggerfish, leopard sharks, barracudas, batfish and unicornfish - providing some of Thailand’s most phenomenal scuba diving and snorkelling. On land, the wildlife is almost as exceptional - visitors have the chance to view flying fox, crab-eating monkeys, dusky langurs, monitor lizards and many other tropical species, as well as a wealth of birdlife.
