This is a half day tour with local guide Matthew Covarr, born and bred Plettenberg Bay local and fundi on local history, attractions and forests.
The essence of the trip is a drive to the King Edward VII Outeniqua Yellowwood Tree that is around 800 years old and stands like a giant in the forest! The tree is located within the national park and surrounded by magnificent indigenous species and there is a short boardwalk of a few hundred yards to examine other species in the vicinity.
In addition to the tree, there is a chapel built by the Italians who came here linked to silk production and also the Forest Museum in Diepwalle that illustrates some of the history. If the weather is good, a drive to the viewpoint overlooking the forest is a must, where you can see all the way from the Knysna Heads to the Tsitsikamma Mountains over Plettenberg Bay.
