Mallaig is a popular port located on the west coast of the Scottish Highlands. Although largely known for the ferry access it provides to the Small Isles, as well as to Armadale (on the Isle of Skye) and Lochboisdale (on South Uist), Mallaig boasts some excellent sights of its own and makes a great base for some lovely day excursions. Don’t miss the Mallaig Heritage Centre, which details the history of the village, as well as the lively harbourside area, full of lively fresh fish markets. Visitors can also look forward to taking a scenic ferry ride to Inverie, the main village on the Knoydart Peninsula, which is a remote area perfect for undisturbed walking and hiking expeditions. Mallaig is, furthermore, a stop on the West Highland Railway line, making it easily accessible from Glasgow.
