The Rideau Canal opened in 1832, is situated in the city of Ottawa in Canada. It connects Ottawa to Lake Ontario and the Saint Lawrence River. Registered in 2007 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is currently a prime site for pleasure boating. In the warmer months, the canal buzzes with activity with people strolling, cycling and jogging up and down amongst the scenic bright blooming flowers. In winter the canal becomes the world’s largest skating rink when the calm waters freeze over.
