Valley of the Queens is located a few kilometres from the banks of the Nile River. In ancient times, the site was the final resting place for wives of past Egyptian kings. It consists of numerous tombs carved out of the rock, each featuring entrance passages and chambers. The tombs are lavishly decorated which was a symbol of wealth in the royal family. One of the highlights of this site is the ornately decorated tomb of Queen Nefertari, one of the favourite wives of Ramesses the Great.
