Located in Braunschweig, Germany, Brunswick Cathedral was donated by Heinrich the Lion, Duke of Saxony and Bavaria as a burial place. With its Romanesque works of art, the basilica is one of Germany's most outstanding church buildings. With the introduction of the Reformation, the cathedral was a ducal court and cathedral church. The cathedral has been the bishop's church of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church in Braunschweig since 1923. It has successfully transformed from the ducal court church to an everyday church in the city's centre.
