A famous wildlife region, the Savuti Channel is best known for large numbers of elephants and predators, especially lion and hyena. The waters of the Savuti Channel used to link the Linyati Marsh with the Savuti Marsh in the Chobe National Park. When the waters stopped flowing, what was then a river full of hippos became wide open grasslands. In 2010 the channel flowed for the first time in 27 years and the grunts of hippos returned to the Savuti.
