Idyllically located in the middle of a magnificent World Heritage rainforest in Far North Queensland, the charming mountain retreat of Kurunda Village makes for a delightful day trip from Cairns and has been attracting visitors for well over a century. The village is home to a thriving arts and crafts community who sell their wares at the village’s numerous popular markets, local galleries, and quaint cafés. Nature lovers are equally well catered for with several excellent walking trails in the area including an elevated boardwalk which winds its way through the lush forest canopy to Barron Falls where you can witness the incredible sight of the Barron river plunging 853 feet (260 meters). The village and its surrounds also boast a variety of wonderful wildlife parks and nature reserves as well as the popular Butterfly Sanctuary, Birdworld and the Koala Gardens.
