Thanda Safari Lodge offers an elegant safari retreat with nine spacious, self-contained suites, each designed for privacy, comfort, and immersion in the surrounding wilderness. Every suite features a generous living area, a heated plunge pool, and an outdoor resting sala overlooking the reserve. The circular architecture of the suites pays homage to traditional Zulu homesteads, blending cultural heritage with contemporary luxury.
The suites are carefully spaced to ensure seclusion while maintaining a connection to the lodge. The lodge’s central dining and gathering area includes an inviting lounge, expansive deck, and library overlooking a waterhole, alongside a private business area, cigar bar, and curated wine cellar. A dedicated spa offers a range of treatments in tranquil therapy rooms or outdoor sala spaces. The therapists are trained in both Western techniques and ancient Zulu holistic practices, providing a deeply restorative experience.

Available at any time of the day and can fit between morning and evening game drives. Activities vary according to what the Conservation Team are working on during your stay.
This activity is hosted by a member of the Rhino Monitoring Team. A contribution towards Thanda’s Rhino Monitoring is allocated in the per person rate. Starting before sunrise, guests will help the team to track and identify the rhinos and learn all about their ecology, the threats to their species, their behaviour, their feeding patterns and much more.
Depart Thanda Safari for a 1½-hour drive to the St. Lucia Estuary followed by a 2-hour cruise to view numerous birds and wildlife, including hippos and crocs.
An early morning or late afternoon safari is the best time to look for the Big Five. With 14,000 hectares to explore and led by our experts of the African bush, you’ll see an incredible range of animals, including cheetahs, hyaenas, giraffes, warthogs and abundant bird and plant life.
A guided walk through the bush is a completely thrilling experience of the wilderness and all its inhabitants. Thanda’s guides and trackers will share their extensive knowledge and animal tracking ability with you, as well as ancient Zulu stories of the wild.
Help to conserve our rhinos! Extraordinary effort is required to protect these magnificent creatures threatened with extinction as a result of poaching by international criminal syndicates. Now you can actively contribute to conserving the rhinos on Thanda Safari by joining our specialist rhino monitors who daily locate and record data on our black and white rhinos.

Guests have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be in close contact with a rhino. Witness the darting of this prehistoric animal and assist the wildlife team in notching the sedated rhino for identification and research purposes, before releasing it back into the wild. The price includes the helicopter that is used in locating the rhino, as well as all costs involved in the darting, genetic sampling and notching.
