The Selva Verde Lodge & Rainforest Reserve is nestled in the lowland tropical rainforest of Costa Rica, in Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui, a long the Sarapiqui River. The lodge is known for being the pioneer of the eco-tourism movement in Costa Rica. This is a magical haven for bird watchers, nature enthusiasts, and hikers desiring to experience the rainforest. Located near the lodge is the town of Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui, where guests will find a number of services and facilities, including bars and restaurants.
The lodge boasts an amazing 500 acres of critical rainforest reserve and features a suspension bridge connecting the eco-lodge to the rainforest reserve. An inviting pool near the dining room area awaits guests looking for a cool place to relax and cool down after an adventurous day of rainforest exploration. The restaurant is near the river, a wonderful spot for guests to enjoy delicious local meals.
Our charming Sarapiqui standard Lodge rooms are set in blocks of four and accommodate one to four or queen beds. Each room has a desk, clothing rack, ceiling fans, and private bath with solar heated water and double each block of rooms, and offer ample wildlife viewing and relaxing opportunities from chairs and hammocks. Our seven rainforest bungalows offer air conditioning as well as ceiling fans and screened windows. Discreetly tucked into the forest uphill from the botanical garden, they are across the road from the River Lodge and public areas. The secluded location affords a peaceful ambiance for relaxing and keeping an eye out for wandering wildlife. The bungalows are great for honeymooners and those desiring a little extra comfort and privacy while experiencing the wonder of the rainforest.
The 10-15 minute walk from the reception area is along a lit and almost completely covered walkway making a very enjoyable, scenic walk via the botanical garden and secondary forest trails. In addition, our Costa Rica eco lodge has vehicle support for luggage transfers and other times when walking would not be advantageous.
The Pioneer Rooms are recently remodeled rooms in the original building where Selva Verde Lodge first began. They are located roadside, very close to the reception area, and are exposed to traffic noise. However, their central location, air conditioning, and WiFi makes them a good choice for some guests. Each room has one queen bed and private bath which makes them a perfect choice for a couple or a single guest. (No additional beds can be accommodated.)

Join our naturalist guide for an early morning bird walk on the grounds of Selva Verde. Morning is a very active time for the birds, so you can count on sighting several of the stunning tropical species that inhabit Selva Verde. Every morning is different, but they are all exciting! Your guide has a keen eye and a high-powered scope, so you can get close up views of birds you might not otherwise notice. Binoculars can be rented at reception.

Join Selva Verde’s naturalist guides for an exciting exploration of the rainforest at night! Bring your flashlight and search the grounds and surrounding trails for nocturnal wildlife – including tree frogs, leaf mimicking insects, and nocturnal mammals including kinkajous and bats!
The dining hall serves fresh, local foods in a variety of dishes. All the food is prepared by our local chefs, and is served three times a day. Breakfast includes gallo pinto, eggs, cereal, yogurt, and fresh tropical fruit, while lunch and dinner include two main entrees, hot side dishes, and a fresh salad bar. Dinner also includes a soup du jour and dessert. Juice, coffee, and tea are served with the buffet meals.
Restaurante Pizzeria La Terrazza is open for dinner, and serves a delicious variety of authentic Mediterranean dishes, including wood-fired oven flatbreads and calzones cooked to order. There is a full menu and complete table service. Reservations are recommended.
