A seaside town in southern Sri Lanka, Kosgoda is a fishing village and cinnamon production centre blessed with a beautiful beach. There are still only a few resorts here, but an increasing number of visitors are trickling in to experience the area’s pristine sandy shores, tropical jungle trails and diverse wildlife - most notably the rare sea turtles that make their nests here. When you’re not soaking up the sun or swimming in the ocean, it’s well worth heading to the Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery and Care Centre, a long-standing turtle conservation project, to find out more about this endangered species.
