Aliwal Shoal, located about 5 km off the coast of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, is a rocky reef formed from an ancient sand dune. At this attraction, visitors can dive into a vibrant underwater world filled with hard and soft corals, tropical fish, and large marine predators. Activities include recreational scuba diving, exploring shipwrecks such as the MV Produce (1974) and SS Nebo (1884), and observing ragged tooth sharks that gather between July and November. Notably, Aliwal Shoal was named after the vessel Aliwal that nearly sank in 1849, and today it forms part of a protected marine sanctuary.
