Sitting adjacent to Inhaca and Portuguese Islands and protecting Mozambique’s Maputo Bay, the Machangulo Peninsula is a tropical paradise of warm, blue oceans, gorgeous and relatively quiet beaches, superb nature and a wealth of outdoor sports. Divers are drawn here to drift on the fresh, clear Indian Ocean tides among schools of Batfish, pipefish, lionfish, regal angelfish, parrotfish, and other colourful creatures. Boasting 27-degree Celsius water year-round, families can enjoy a full day of activities, including kayaking, snorkelling, dhow sailing, and sports fishing (there are good conditions for rock angling, salt-water fly fishing, to deep-sea fishing). Birdwatchers have plenty to see, including waders, forest and aquatic species, and animal lovers will be pleased to see spotted genet, Verreaux’s eagle owl and African rock python.
