The western forest part of this region is mainly inhabited by elephant herds. The river is home to an exceptional number of hippos and crocodiles. Leopard, serval, lion, wild dogs are common predators along this route. General wildlife includes giraffe, zebra, sassabi, lechwe and less common resident sable antelope.
