One of the most scenic roads in Vietnam, the Hải Vân Pass consists of 19 km of roadway that traverses a spur of the Annamite Range of mountains and connects Da Nang with the town of Lang Co in the Hue province. Historically, the pass was a physical division between the kingdoms of Champa and Đại Việt.

The name of the pass means ‘Ocean Cloud Pass’ and refers to the mists that rise from the ocean, considerably reducing visibility. The completion of the of Hải Vân Tunnel has made a huge difference to the flow of traffic through the pass.
