The Hoi An Night Market is a lively evening stroll rather than a formal sightseeing stop, and it works best when enjoyed with a light, flexible approach. Set mainly on An Hoi Island, just across the river from the old town, the market is known for its lantern stalls, souvenir stands, casual snacks, and busy holiday atmosphere.
The lantern displays are the main draw. Rows of glowing silk lanterns create one of Hoi An’s most recognisable evening scenes, with bright colours spilling across the street and plenty of photo opportunities. It is a good place to browse for small gifts, handmade items, clothing, accessories, and decorative pieces, though quality and prices vary, so take your time and bargain gently where appropriate.
Food stalls add to the atmosphere, with grilled snacks, sweets, fruit drinks, and simple local bites. For a proper meal, it is often more comfortable to eat at a nearby restaurant and use the market for a wander afterwards, especially if you prefer a calmer setting or have specific dietary needs.
The market can be crowded, noisy, and quite commercial, particularly in peak season. That does not mean it should be avoided, but it is worth setting expectations: this is more about colour, movement, and evening energy than deep cultural insight. A short visit is often enough.
Pair it with a walk along the Thu Bon River, a look at the Lantern-lit Old Town, or a drink on Bach Dang Street before crossing over. Keep bags secure, watch for uneven paving, and be mindful of motorbikes at the edges of the pedestrian zones. Go with a relaxed attitude and it can be a fun, easy finish to the day.
