Tarangire National Park was gazetted in 1970 and is one of Tanzania’s best kept secrets. Covering an area of 2,600 square kilometres, the park is renowned for its concentration of wildlife during the drier months.
Like the Serengeti, Tarangire should really be viewed in the context of the full ecosystem of which it is only a small part. The system extends south and east into the Maasai steppe, and this vast area acts as a dispersal area for much of the game during the rainy season.
At certain times of the year, Tarangire becomes home to impressive concentrations of migratory wildlife species; large numbers of wildebeest, zebra, elephant, eland and oryx.
