Akihabara is a district in Tokyo’s Chiyoda ward, known for its focus on electronics, anime, manga, and gaming culture. It developed after World War II as a centre for household electronics and black market activity. The area later became associated with otaku culture, featuring themed cafés, arcades, and shops displaying anime and manga imagery. Its name originates from a fire-controlling deity, linked to a shrine built following a major fire in 1869.
