The Bibi-Khanym Mosque was built between 1399 and 1404 by the orders of Timur, ruler of the Timurid Empire. The mosque was initially constructed to show Timur's power and wealth. It covers an area of 11,000 square meters and is adorned with intricate patterns. The main entrance to the mosque is an exquisite 40 metres portal decorated with geometric patterns and Arabic calligraphy.
