Onguma Tented Camp was originally part of the greater Etosha Game Reserve. The 42,000ha reserve includes savannah, bushveld, omuramba and dry pan and lies on the eastern side of Etosha, bordering Fisher's pan, and offers the opportunity to experience Africa in all her beauty and diversity. Age-old and well-worn migration routes, once used by elephant and buffalo wander through Onguma's three dry riverbeds. Onguma Tented Camp offers a unique bush experience and overlooks a waterhole. Visitors include rhino, lion, various antelope, birds and other wildlife. Plains game roam freely on the reserve and predators, although not easy to spot, are nevertheless common residents of the area.

This part of Namibia has been identified as one of the key bird watching sites in Southern Africa. More than 300 bird species can be viewed here. The reserve boasts the biggest breeding colony of white-backed vultures in Namibia. During the summer months Onguma becomes a bird-watchers paradise with thousands of species migrating to wetlands created by the seasonal rains and ephemeral river systems.

Onguma also became part of an innovative custodianship project relating to the black rhino. Six black rhino were darted in Etosha National park and shipped to the reserve. Here they are protected and monitored.

Onguma Tented Camp offers luxurious tented rooms inclusive of all meals and activities. The interior is casual and timeless and natural materials such as wood, stone and natural textiles make it a visual and tactile experience.
