Blue Pond is a man-made water feature in Biei, Hokkaido. The pond was named for the unnaturally bright blue hue of its water. It was created to protect the town of Biei from volcanic mudflows after the eruption of Mt. Tokachi in 1988. Located on the left bank of the River Bieigawa, the pond is an approximate 2.5 km away from the Platinum hot springs at the foot of Mt. Tokachi. The area gives off an ethereal atmosphere, with tree stumps protruding from the surface of the bright blue water.
