Manda Bay is a small boutique lodge located on the tip of an unspoiled, idyllic island in Lamu’s archipelago where you kick off your shoes and enjoy simplistic beauty in palm thatched cottages and open living spaces. Manda Bay is perfect for honeymooners, families and groups looking to enjoy time together.
Manda Bay combines a bush and beach experience. Whilst miles of soft sand and coconut palms surround the lodge itself, the bush behind the lodge is dry country scattered with Doum palms, Acacia Tortilis and savannah-like scrub. A variety of birds and mammals inhabit the island.
Manda Bay offers simplistic but beautiful accommodation, informal pampering and barefoot luxury. All the buildings are in keeping with the local landscape and are constructed using palm and driftwood and local building techniques. The location is exceptional with safe and comfortable swimming and boating.
There are 11 ensuite Beach Front rooms which are situated right on the sea front, and have stunning views across the Indian Ocean. Each room is an individual cottage, constructed with local materials in traditional coastal style, with palm thatch roofs and woven matting covering.

Each of the rooms is ensuite.
Children will automatically be allocated a Palm Room, unless parents request otherwise.
Our Garden Rooms, of which there are six, have been designed to accommodate guests on a cheaper rate - the rooms are simpler but very comfortable, and set back in the gardens of the resort. The beds are smaller in size - 3ft x 6ft.

There are 11 beachfront rooms which are situated right on the seawall and are therefore closest to the water and beach when it comes out at low tide. Large open rooms with 7ft beds either twin or Kingsize and room for one or 2 extra beds for children if required. Room 11 is an extra large villa able to accommodate 3 extra beds. There is a dressing table, information booklet, charging plugs ( 220volts - 3 pin), hairdryer, drinking water, toiletries in the bathroom, 2 sets of towels per person, beach towels, basket for use whilst staying for shell collecting and beach combing, twin washbasins, W/C and walk-in shower.
There are 5 Palm rooms set slightly further back from the Seawall on higher ground behind the Beachfront rooms. Room 7 is a family cottage with an extra room and bathroom to accommodate up to 3 children. The rooms are cool and airy with a sea breeze and are made up of 7ft beds either twin or Kingsize and room for one or 2 extra beds for children if required. There is a dressing table, information booklet, charging plugs ( 220volts - 3 pin), hairdryer, drinking water, toiletries in the bathroom, 2 sets of towels per person, beach towels, and basket for use whilst staying for shell collecting and beach combing, twin washbasins, W/C and walk-in shower.
There are 6 Garden rooms. These smaller rooms, are close together and are situated in the middle of the property. They were initially designed for teenagers to make family travel more affordable. Still, they have been very popular with many of our clients, especially for fishermen who are out all day or families and couples who want a more affordable option. They have standard-sized twin/double Divan beds, information booklets, charging plugs ( 220-240 volts), a wardrobe, a shower, W/C and a washstand—all toiletries, linens, drinking water, outside chairs and a swing bed.

Manda offers conventional deep sea fishing on a 33 ft Lochin sportfishing boat. The captain and crew are experienced in fly fishing and jigging as well. the day starts early in order to get out to the deep blue water and reefs where the pelagic fish are commonly found. The most common types of fish caught are Dorado, Wahoo, Kingfish, Sailfish, blue, black and striped marlin,
Yellow fin Tuna and Skipjack tuna. We recommend pre- booking.
The fishing months run from September - April. The best months for billfish are November - February.
Fishing trips can last half day, full day or overnight.
Manda has a collection of small boats with which to explore the islands, try some inshore fishing, visit Lamu or enjoy some watersports. There are water-skis, doughnuts, wake boards as well which can be enjoyed on the high tide in the calm waters of the mangrove creek. Snorkelling is very popular from November - March when the water is clear. The coral reefs are 10 mins away by boat.
These activities are not included in your stay and can be paid for at the end of the stay.
Manda bay also has a number of non-motorized activities available to guests, which are included in their stay.
These include 4 single Kayaks, one double kayak, 8 paddle boards, 2 windsurfers, a Laser and a Topper sailing dingy.
Whilst they are free to use - should you require instruction then we can provide this at a small cost.

Manda has a unspoilt wilderness behind the lodge which can be visited along with the Manda Ruins - an ancient coastal settlement going back to the 9th Century With a resident herd of Cape buffalo and a variety of other mammals, this is a fun and different excursion to enjoy particularly in the evenings.
Renowned for its excellent food, Manda Bay creates delicious gourmet cuisine, using the freshest ingredients possible including a large variety of hand-selected seafood. Breakfasts of fresh fruit, cereals and a choice of cooked breakfasts, homemade buffet-style lunches and 3-course dinners on the beach under the stars. Guests may eat alone or with a group as they wish. All food preferences and allergies are catered for with prior notice.
As with everywhere in Kenya, sundowners are an important part of the day. Sundowners are brought from the bar to the beachfront and served by barmen Saidi, in front of a warmly glowing fire.
