Positioned on the southern bank of the uMkhomazi River on the subtropical coast of KwaZulu-Natal, Umkomaas is a small town which draws huge attention from divers around the world, who come to explore the unique and renowned Aliwal Shoal diving site. Lying just five kilometres offshore, the scuba location features a dramatic ridge of caves filled with colourful fish and coral and is inhabited by a prolific number of sharks of various species. Divers may see ragged-tooth sharks, hammerhead sharks, Zambezi sharks, copper sharks, threshers and even occasionally Great White Sharks. The Nebo Wreck presents another diving adventure and is home to exceptionally large moray eels. Visitors to the area can also look forward to whale-watching, game drives, mountain biking, hiking, bird-watching and golf among the magnificent natural scenery of the town.
