Guamote is a village found in the geographical centre of Ecuador. This remote place - which can be accessed via bus from Riobamba (45 kilometres) or via the Nariz del Diablo (Devil’s Nose) train route - is bursting with charm and authenticity, and will appeal most to socially conscious visitors looking to make a positive impact during their travels. The village is centred around an indigenous community and is famous for its local Thursday Market; however, the non-profit organisation of Inti Sisa has developed more activities in the region, including hiking routes, horseback trails and visits to the Lakes of Atillo. Inti Sisa also runs a popular guesthouse, with all of the proceeds being redirected to the organisation’s vitally important Education Centre (where visitors may also volunteer their time).
