Voodoo Museum is located within the Portuguese Fort in Ouidah and was known as a slave trade centre before being restored and reopened in 1967 as a historical museum. The property houses objects and illustrations of historical and cultural significance, which provides visitors with an understanding of the regions rich history and culture. The collections are grouped into six major themes, beginning with artefacts from the old Portuguese Fort, to the history of the kingdom of Dahomey, as well as Voodoo artefacts and photos. A trained curator will guide visitors through the chapel, military garrison, barracks, and the Portuguese representative's residence which holds memorabilia and archaeological artefacts.
