Zanzibar Island, Tanzania - the mythical island, the spice island. A wonderful, romantic, historic and stunningly beautiful tropical island (part of the Zanzibar Archipelago which consists of over 50 islands). It is known for its palm fringed, powder-white beaches, turquoise waters and its historical Old Town, an UNESECO World Heritage Site with bustling spice markets, narrow streets and delicious food! It combines fantastically with safari and trekking options on the mainland and there is a vast range of things to do on offer, notably sensational diving, snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, kite-surfing as well as some intriguing spice tours and some superb historic and cultural activities. Options for a Zanzibar beach holiday are many but broadly there is Nungwi in the north (beautiful white beaches and turquoise ocean with lots going on), the east coast (lined with long powder-white beaches) the south-east coast (still stunning beaches & palms but more relaxed), the south-west (very laid back & friendly).
