The Cathedral of Évora can be seen as a silhouette sticking out from the town from any distance. The cathedral is the centrepiece of the historic area of Evora. Its real name is Basílica Sé de Nossa Senhora da Assunção (Basilica Cathedral of Our Lady of Assumption) and it is the largest medieval cathedral in Portugal. Built between 1186 and 1250, it is a crucial feature for tourists to visit when in the area.
