The safari tours which we offer take place in our safari vehicle (maximum 10 guests) and consist of two parts which are often combined.
On the first tour we take our guests to one of the Rooibos plantations where I explain just about everything about the plant, its peculiarities and its cultivation. Then we drive to the processing plant (factory) where guests can experience all the processes the tea goes through from the raw material to the final packaged product.
The second part of the tour focuses in an informal way on fynbos i.e. – how plants cope with the very hot, dry summer conditions, what they do to attract pollinators, how they protect themselves against insect pests, etc. (we refer to all this as the secret lives of plants). We also visit one of the beautiful rock formations where we explain how they (and the mountains) were formed and the part they play in the ecology of the Cape floristic kingdom. The Cape floristic kingdom (or fynbos biome) is one of the richest plant biomes in the world. Each of the tours lasts a little more than one hour. The combined tour lasts about 2½ hours. After the tours the guests are served our own very special spiced tea – either hot or cold. They can also taste the tea produced on the estate and browse in our shop where tea from the estate, a wide variety of Rooibos based products, dried fruit, curios, etc., etc. are available. Very little walking is involved unless guests request a visit to a rock painting site, but even there the distance is hardly 100 meters.
The tours are done throughout the year except on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Christmas. We try to avoid doing tours on Sundays especially during the high (flower) season in August and September because these tours are quite demanding as we do not work from a set “lecture”, but rather talk informally about whichever interesting plants or wildlife we come across. There are no set departure times as we arrange this to suit the guests who book first.
