Lake Petén Itzá, located in northern Petén Department, Guatemala, is the country’s third largest lake, stretching 32 kilometers long and 5 kilometers wide. At this attraction, visitors can enjoy boating, swimming, and exploring the surrounding forests and archaeological sites. Activities include birdwatching, spotting crocodiles and monkeys, hiking to the Cerro Cahui reserve, and visiting Maya ruins such as Tayasal. Notably, the lake is surrounded by more than 27 Maya sites, with Flores city on its southern shore, and is home to diverse wildlife including jaguars, toucans, and endemic fish species.
