Chimborazo Volcano is 6310 meters high, making it the highest volcano in Ecuador. In fact, it is the highest mountain in the world when measured from the center of the Earth. It beats Mt. Everest by 2 km.

The first refuge is located at 4850m and this is usually the starting point on a hiking trip up the Chimobrazo volcano. From this point the second refuge is located at 5050m. It´s a steep hike but with incredible views over the surrounding parkland and a good chance to see vicuñas.

You need warm clothes, a wind jacket and rain gear for this hike as the temperatures drop quickly on top of the volcano. You can also feel affected by the altitude, so take it easy and drink plenty of water.
Once you reach the second refuge you can hike further up the volcano to reach the glacier. You will also have a great view over the Condo Cocha lagoon.
