Muzimu Lodge is one of just two camps in more than one million acres of untouched wilderness, offering guests unrivalled access to Gorongosa National Park, a biodiversity hotspot at the southern end of Africa’s Great Rift Valley. East African Style Canvas Tents
Raised above the ground and discreetly positioned along the riverbank, Muzimu Lodge’s six tented suites are designed in classic East African style, offering a quiet, elegant retreat after a day in the bush. Each canvas tent opens onto a private timber deck with views of the surrounding landscape. Inside, king-sized beds (twin available), fine linens, en-suite bathrooms, ceiling fans, in room wifi and thoughtful touches ensure comfort without excess. Simplicity here is intentional, allowing the beauty of Gorongosa to take centre stage, while every detail — from the filtered light to the soft sounds of nature — contributes to a sense of serenity and connection.

Set out on an open game drive with our expert safari guides and explore over one million acres of protected wilderness in Gorongosa National Park. Exploring Gorongosa on foot offers a deeper connection to nature as you follow animal trails, uncover hidden tracks, and discover the rich plant life that sustains the ecosystem. Led by our expert guides, you’ll gain a new appreciation for the smaller details of the bush while staying alert for glimpses of larger wildlife along the way.
Gorongosa is at the forefront of pangolin conservation, and guests have the unique opportunity to learn more about these elusive and endangered animals. All visitors can tour the Pangolin Conservation Centre at the Park’s headquarters, where rescued pangolins are rehabilitated and monitored. For guests staying five nights or more, there's the unforgettable chance to join a morning foraging walk — following the pangolins as they feed in a new location each day. Walking alongside them and hearing directly from the vets and rangers offers rare insight into what it takes to care for and protect one of Africa’s most threatened species.
Learn about Gorongosa’s unique approach to conservation.The E.O. Wilson Biodiversity Lab is a modern scientific facility in the heart of the national park, one of the first of its kind in Africa. It offers long-term research and training opportunities in biodiversity documentation, ecology, and conservation biology to Mozambicans, visiting researchers, and students. The Lab’s work helps guide restoration efforts in Gorongosa National Park and other protected areas of Mozambique.

A trip to Mount Gorongosa reveals a completely different side of the Park — with rainforest trails, hidden waterfalls, and sweeping views. Hike to the crystal-clear pools of Murombodzi Falls for a refreshing swim, savour a picnic lunch in nature, and visit the Gorongosa Coffee Project to learn how sustainable farming is helping restore the mountain’s fragile ecosystem. The day ends with a coffee tasting of their shade-grown Arabica.

During the wetter months, when water levels are suitable, you can drift silently by canoe along the Park’s seasonal waterways, paddling past pods of hippo, crocodiles, and prolific birdlife. It’s an intimate, peaceful way to experience the landscape. Boat safaris on Lake Urema are also possible when conditions allow, offering sweeping views of the floodplains and Mount Gorongosa in the distance. These activities are seasonal and weather-dependent, but when available, they offer a truly unique and tranquil encounter with the Park’s wilder side.
