Stretching across Portugal’s northwest coast, south of Lisbon, Comporta, or the Comporta Coast, is often referred to as the country’s best-kept secret. While it’s been compared to St. Tropez, Ibiza and The Hamptons, the area is, while trendy and growing in size, essentially a dreamy ‘hideaway’ in nature which has managed to retain much of its authenticity. Perfect, powdery beaches are fringed with rolling dunes, in turn, backed by lush rice paddies, continuing a long-standing tradition. Luxury spas, chic boutiques and five-star restaurants are tucked away and cater to a diversity of tastes. Overlapping the Parque Natural da Arrabida, the area also boasts wonderful birdlife (look out for flamingos and nesting storks) and fantastic opportunities for hiking, horse riding, swimming and kayaking.
