Hidden in a highland, the picturesque El Junco Lagoon is located a few kilometres from the town of Puerto Baquerizo Moreno on the San Cristobal Island in Ecuador. This freshwater crater lake is dotted by some endemic fauna species, including sedge and the Galapagos miconia. The lake is a great place to observe the white-cheeked pintail, the San Cristóbal mockingbird as well as the interesting rituals of frigate birds washing the salt off their feathers. Tourists can look forward to activities such as climbing, hiking and bird watching.
