Built during the Spanish colonial period, Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas is a military fortress located on San Lázaro hill in Cartagena de Indias. It was designed to defend the city from land-based attacks and safeguard strategic access routes. Over time, the structure was expanded to strengthen its defensive capacity, incorporating tunnels, ramparts and artillery positions that reflect the military engineering practices of the era.
