Matsamo Cultural Village is a traditional village located at the border between South Africa and Swaziland and is a must-see for visitors looking to experience authentic Swazi culture. A well-informed guide host walks visitors through the village and provides an overview and information on the traditions and customs. Thereafter visitors are invited to wander freely through the many huts and seclusions and to interact with the villagers as they go about their daily activities. Traditional African crops are cultivated, the Nguni cattle herd can be seen, traditional food is prepared and local craftwork is undertaken.
Facilities and activities include a curio shop, an authentic restaurant, traditional dancing, singing and drumming on the village hand-made djembe (goblet drums), evening experiences with storytelling around the fire and the opportunity to visit a traditional healer. Guests are invited to take classes in traditional cooking, beadwork, drumming sessions, cow milking, weaving and field ploughing.
