Phabeni Gate was opened in 2002 to provide an alternative route to the congested Paul Kruger Gate for visitors accessing the park from the lowveld towns. Phabeni Gate is the best way to get into Skukuza from Gauteng. The gate differs from others in the park with its African-themed rondavels. Just ahead of the gate, inside the park, are the ruins of one of the first trading stores in the lowveld.
